Diesel Mechanics Technology

Join our Diesel Mechanics Technology pathway at Coahoma Community College
and embark on a journey to gain the essential skills for maintaining and repairing a
wide range of industrial diesel equipment. From agricultural tractors to commercial
trucks and construction machinery, our program equips you with the competencies
needed to excel in this thriving industry.
 
Program Highlights:
• Learn to inspect, repair, and maintain engines, power trains, hydraulic systems, and other vital components.
• Acquire expertise in diagnosing and repairing medium and heavy-duty equipment engines, suspension and steering systems, brake systems, and electrical/electronic systems.
• Master the art of performing preventative maintenance and inspections on medium and heavy-duty equipment.
 
Upon successful completion of the Diesel Mechanics Technology Short-Term Technical Certificate, you will be ready to enter the workforce as a skilled professional, fully equipped to tackle the challenges of this dynamic field.

Welding

This class is designed to give the student entry-level skills in welding and cutting. The intent is to prepare students to do basic GMAW and SMAW welding jobs that some industries and small businesses require. This class can also be useful to the small farmer or business owner who has many do-it-yourself projects. Different types of welding are emphasized. The class includes a basic introduction to oxy-fuel cutting, welding safety, voltage regulation and setting wire feed speeds as well as a lot of “hands-on” practice. Students will learn to discuss and apply proper safety procedures for welding, practice safety procedures for both GMAW and SMAW welding operations as well as oxy-fuel cutting operations.

Industrial Lift Operations (forklift, pallet jack, hand lift)

The Industrial Lift Operations course is designed to cover the current safety training requirements found in the OSHA standard for Powered Industrial Trucks.  The training covers forklift safety rules and regulations for all types and classifications of lift trucks.  It focuses on operating procedures, such as how to drive the forklift and operate the lift safely.

Location and Times:  This is a three-hour course.  Times and locations vary according to schedule.  Industries may request classes for employees. Classes offered in Clarksdale, Marks and Tunica.

CPR/1ST AID

These in-person, instructor=led classes are geared toward business/industries needing to meet OSHA compliance or for individuals needing it for regulatory requirements.  The course equips students to recognize and care for a variety of first aid, breathing, and cardiac emergencies involving adults, children and babies.

Location and Times:  This is a four-hour course.  Times and locations vary.

Cost: $40/person for up to 10 participants; $35/person over 10 participants

Additional $21/person for American Heart Association certification card (good for 2 years)

National Career Readiness Certificate (NCRC)

The ACT WorkKeys National Career Readiness Certificate (ACT WorkKeys NCRC®) is an assessment-based credential issued at four levels; Platinum, Gold, Silver, and Bronze. The NCRC measures and certifies the essential work skills needed for success in jobs across industries and occupations.

Location and Times:  Location and times will vary according to testing schedule.

Cost:  $50/participant.  Possible funding sources available to those that qualify.

Must have a current identification card.

To remain competitive, companies have to know that you will be a valuable employee.  We will work together to enhance the competencies of you as an employee. We have designed a program that will boost workplace performance in alliance with any company’s core values.

Job interview etiquette is key to making a great first impression on an employer. Interviewers will notice specific things about a potential employee and this will set the tone for the rest of your interview.  Whether the interview is in person or remote, your etiquette can directly affect whether you get the job or not.  Let us help you develop the skills to land the job.

SHORT-TERM HEALTH SCIENCE CLASSES

Emergency Medical Technician

Dates:  August-December and January-June

The EMT program provides classroom and laboratory instruction for entry level Emergency Medical Technicians following the current National DOT curriculum. Emergency Medical Technician-Basic is an instructional program that prepares individuals to function in the pre-hospital environment. The EMT-Basic program provides instruction in basic life support care of sick and injured persons. This includes airway assessment, communications, documentation, general pharmacology, hemorrhage control, ambulance operations, and splinting of adult, pediatric, and infant patients; and special care patients exposed to heat, cold, radiation, or contagious disease.

Phlebotomy

Dates:  Spring Semester; January-May

This is a 1 semester certificate program designed to train entry-level students for drawing blood in hospitals and doctors' offices. Application must be completed by November 20th for admission to the class for the following spring semester.

EKG

Dates:  Fall Semester:  August-December

This is a 10 week certificate program designed to train entry-level students for performing and evaluation of EKGs. Application must be completed by August 15 for admission to the class for the fall semester.

Nursing Assistant

Dates: Fall Semester: August-December and Spring Semester: January-May

This certificate program is a 10-week class designed to offer practical experience in nursing assistant training to aid the participant in finding employment as a healthcare team under the direction of a healthcare professional. Students must submit a completed application by mid-August.
